![]() Many are just not giving it the chance it deserves. I have no doubt they will do justice and this game will be as good as SN, for me at least. Sadly trying to please all people hurt many for the fact some people will not be pleased no matter what you do. I love the cliffhanger and do so hope that they just polish the story and not trash it. Grrrr I have went as far as this version goes in stable and will say I really want to know where the rest of what story we have is going. That said they are spending more time and money with a new script writer to fix the story yet again. ![]() I will say that as you go along, those of us who just love the game get used to the voice, under duress I add, and the story will catch you into waiting for the next input of said story. Sadly believe we will not get the, happy in her new "once in a life time" job character back. I as well get into the story and feel they detached the character from her story by not giving her the excited feelings she had, instead she now sounds like, been there done this lets move along. The hew and cry wanted a lot done to Robin and I am very glad the only outcome was a dull voice change. The relaxed banter with her sister was really a nice touch and expressed her happiness with new job. I loved the first voice as well although I will admit there was not enough inflection of distress to match the situations. The developers were put in between a rock and a hard place. But I felt like the more relaxed opening of the game and the interactions between the sisters was both a treat for players of the original Subnautica as well as a great introduction to the world for those new to the franchise.Īt least I can grab videos from YouTube with the original intro and dialogue, and I hope the (in my humble opinion) downgraded dialogue, cut-down story, and (will all due respect) inferior voice acting is not a harbinger of more compromises to the game going forward. Perhaps if I play a bit more I will find the re-tooled dialogue and voice actors are still enticing enough to make Below Zero as interesting as its predecessor. I was invested in the story, and I think what made the original Subnautica so great is that its excellent gameplay was in the service of a very engaging story, even if it was done without dialogue. I was a little disoriented by it at first as well, but as I played I found it to be well done and it added a layer to the sequel that I thought might be a nice evolution of the original game. I know that the decision to add characters and dialogue to a game when its predecessor had none was a somewhat controversial decision. it seems that quite a few people were not as into the original story as I was and might find this new chopped-down intro more favorable. It has dampened my enthusiasm for the game somewhat, but it also seems to be a sign that the development of this game might be a bit troubled. Now I understand the game is in development, that things change, that sometimes voice actors aren't available, that pacing and tone can change, but it's still disturbing. I must say I was very disheartened to find the characters I had become invested in were now basically just gone. ![]() ![]() While I was eager to experience the new gameplay and new critters in the game, I was most looking forward to finding out how the STORY had progressed. Instead, I find that the main character is significantly different, and all the witty banter has be basically reduced to a set of directions ("Go here because Meteors!" "go there because Reasons!"). While I knew it would take some time to get through the prolonged intro and into the 'action', I was looking forward to the leisurely pace of walking around the base, listening to the main character banter with her sister, and ease into the world before plunging into the waters and starting the 'game proper'. I fired up the game after a couple months to try out the new update, and after being eaten a couple times by critters I never saw coming, I figured it would be best to start fresh and began a new game.
